Title: Dog Breath
Author: Dav Pilkey
Publisher: The Blue Sky Press
Publication Date: 1994
Genre: Fiction
Audience: Grade 2+

Overview: This book is about a dog, Hally, who has the smelliest breath in the world. But the family does not mind it until one day when he startles grandma with his awful breath. The parents decide they have to give him away but the kids try to take him places to get rid of his bad breath. Finally, they give up and go to bed, knowing only a miracle can keep their dog now. But something does happen in the night that changes the family from then on. I found it to be a very appealing book for young kids, and especially for the kids who have pets.

Activity: Have the students draw a picture of an unusual animal they would like to have as a pet and have them write why they chose this animal.
