Overview: When the Once-ler first lays eyes on the Truffula Trees he noticed the beauty of their color and smell. Who wouldn’t want a product that was made out of something that beautiful? The Once-ler then made the first Thneed. What’s a Thneed? It’s a shirt, a sock, a glove, a hat, a carpet, a pillow, a sheet, a curtain, or a bicycle seat’s cover. What an amazing product! It sounds like it’s really something that, “everyone, everyone, everyone needs!” But what price does a Thneed REALLY cost?

Activity: Discuss with students the negative effects of deforestation to the environment. Make them realize the effects that it can have on an entire ecosystem. Once they realize the dangers of deforestation, discuss ideas to help the environment that you can do as a class. Set up a class compost bin that they can put proper waste from lunch into. When the compost is ready, use it to plant a garden somewhere around the school.
