Overview: This book by Shel Silverstein is one for almost every age. While the pictures are simple, the story is one of morals and lessons. The piece, a circle that has a piece missing from its circular body, goes in search of its missing piece. After a long journey in search of its piece, the circle, finally finds its missing piece. But as a complete circle, will it really be happy? Find out in this amazing story of a missing piece. If you end up loving this book, read the sequel, The Missing Piece Meets the Big O!

Activity: Give each child a circle, and have them cut out a piece of it. Then have them write, “I like that I ______” and have them finish a sentence with one of their talents. Not only does this correlate with The Missing Piece’s theme of being happy the way we are, it gets their creative juices flowing. When they are done hang them up somewhere for all to see!
