The Prince Won't Go to Bed!
Author/Illustrator: Dayle Ann Dodds/Kyrsten Brooker
Publisher: FSG Publishers
Publication Date: 2007
Genre: Fiction – picture book
Audience: Gr. Pre-K+
Overview: “Waa! Waa! Waa! I will not go to bed” howls the prince (at least until this book is read). As the castle staff tries to get the prince to go to sleep, the creative collage style illustrations depict the anticipation as they think they have solved the problem. Lots of action verbs and the repetitive phrase will keep readers engaged.
Activity: As the story is read, anticipate the next solution, and the Prince’s reaction. Invite readers to chime in as the Prince protests. Discuss other creative ways to get the prince to sleep. Great for story sequencing.
