The Pigeon Loves Things that Go!
Author/Illustrator: Mo Willems
Publisher: Hyperion Books for Children
Publication date: 2005
Awards: Caldecott Honor Book, New York Times Best Seller, and Publishers Weekly Editor’s Pick.
Genre: Board Book
Audience: Gr. Pre-K+
Overview: The pigeon knows that a bus can “go,” an airplane can “go,” and a plan can “go.” A hotdog does not “go.” However, the hotdog can “go” right into the pigeon’s belly!
Activity: Have readers do a “choo-choo” train activity after reading this book. Make the first student in line the conductor. Ask the student what he or she “sees” out the window of the pretend train. This activity will demonstrate that a train can “go.” At a young age, students will love acting out this activity!
