Overview: This book is composed of poems by many writers, but they are all focused on seeing the creative and positive factors of African-Americans. This book will tie in great with Black History month as well as a lesson dealing with African culture. Students of the advanced grades will be able to analyze the poems for their figurative language, but everyone can have a chance to interpret the poems.

Activity: Students could choose the poem they like best and respond to it. Depending on the age of the students, this book could be used for discussions on racial discrimination as well as self-esteem since the book is trying to focus on the positives.
