What a Day It Was At School!
Author/Illustrator: Jack Prelutsky, (Illus) Doug Cushman
Publisher: Greenwillow
Publication Date: 2006
Genre: Poetry
Audience: Gr. 2+
Overview: Much loved poet, Jack Prelutsky, captures the angst and joys of going to school in this collection. Readers will find themselves in the many school situations he writes about.
Activity: After reveling in Prelutsky’s poetic language, he seems to challenge readers to try their own hand at writing a poem (The last one in the book is: “I have to Write a Poem For Class”). Encourage word play, do not require specific poetic forms, allow for free verse, and you might just have a poet on your hands!
