Title: The Old Man and the Fiddle
Author: Michael McCurdy
Publisher: G.P. Putnam’s Sons
Publication Date: 1992
Genre: Fiction
Audience: Grade 3+

Overview: There is an old man who sits on his porch and plays his fiddle all day. When his neighbors come around to complain about his messy house and animals all over the place, he keeps playing his fiddle. When a sudden flood strikes, the old man continues to sit on his porch and play the fiddle as he is washed away. But that is not where the story ends. I enjoyed the book because the old man made me laugh to myself. You know what he is going to do but you continue to keep on reading.

Activity: Hand out simple instruments made from classroom objects and let the kids make a song.
